Certainly one of the finest restorations in the city, this award winning 1912 Samuel Maclure has been honoured by the Victoria Hallmark Society for the most authentic renovation of 2009.
From the moment you enter the beautiful granite pillars and walk up to the impressive 40’ veranda you will realize you are coming into a rare gem of architectural excellence. The owners replaced all wiring and plumbing, as well as installing a new state of the art boiler, hot water tank and valve systems for radiators and in floor heat in the basement.Waterglass studio replaced and replicated many of the original lights, and all leaded windows were removed and sent to Mercer-Schaeffer to be cleaned and reglazed. Everything in this home was done with Museum quality craftsmanship.
The grand living room, dining room, entry hall and study are all panelled with Oak flooring and are of generous proportion. You will appreciate the restored original wainscoting and original stained glass.
The gourmet kitchen has been completely renovated with beautiful slate flooring and granite counter tops. In the corner there is a Vermont Casting’s gas stove which creates a very cozy place to relax.
Outside the full summer kitchen offers a granite island with fridge, sink and stainless steel drawers and bar sitting area. A massive fireplace with cedar pergola surrounding the paving stone deck area makes a very private area for entertaining. The lush gardens in the courtyard are reminiscent of a manor in Europe.
The whole upper floor was taken down to the studs and rebuilt to the original specifications. One half of the upper floor is used as the master retreat, with spa ensuite, generous closets and a private study/library perfect for moments of reflection. The basement was dug down 12” to create a lovely full height useable lower level providing three more bedrooms and in law potential. The doors and trims on this level have all been made to replicate the same Maclure style in the rest of the house. Not one square inch of this home has not been artfully restored and created with uncompromising quality.
